7 August bank holiday long weekend breaks from £18 return

It’s August already, which means our bizarre take on summer is coming to an end and autumn is just around the corner. With that comes the August bank holiday and a chance to escape one last time for a long weekend without having to take two days annual leave.

We’re seeing surprisingly low, last-minute fares for flights to cities across Europe from just £18 spanning the bank holiday weekend including Budapest (BUD), Copenhagen (CPH), Dublin (DUB), Gothenburg (GOT), Hamburg (HAM), Milan (MXP) and Vienna (VIE).

Each destination brings its own unique character and soul — from the designer shopping in Milan and the classic arts and culture of Vienna to the cool, Hygge vibes of Copenhagen, there should be somewhere in this list that’s right up your street.

Keep in mind before booking that we are still living in unprecedented times. While the U.K. government says travel to these destinations is OK right now, that advice could change overnight — as we saw with Spain. You may want to review the booking policy of the airline you’re travelling with. That way, if advice changes or you no longer feel comfortable travelling, a refundable or flexible ticket will allow you to change those plans without leaving you in the dark. Also keep in mind the entry requirements for the country you plan on travelling to.

To book, head to Ryanair’s website for Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Gothenburg or Hamburg, or Wizz Air’s website for Milan and Vienna. Then, add Luton (LTN) or Stansted (STN) — depending on the route — for your departure airport, followed by the city of choice as your arrival destination. Then, all you need to do is use the built-in calendar function to find the best fares and dates for you.

Remember, Ryanair and Wizz Air’s lowest fares don’t include a checked bag. But, if you’re clever with your packing, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Also, don’t forget that flying low cost doesn’t mean you have to have a low-cost experience. Check out our guide on how to upgrade your low-cost experience.
