Monasteries Armenia is home to some of the world's greatest religious shrines. Khor Virap Monastery, surrounded by vineyards of the Ararat plain, is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites. It features a jail cell, where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for 13 years.
