Gorillas Over half of the world’s endangered mounta in gorillas live in Uganda. One gorilla troop can be tracked from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The Virunga Mountains, containing the two most active volcanoes of Africa, are the dramatic spine of the park. Trekking the golden monkeys is another highlight of this undiscovered park. Kibale National Park, which protects moist evergreen rain forest, is home to a population of habituated chimpanzees and 12 other species of primates.
Tiny Rwanda‘s name may evoke memories of the horrific genocide that brutalised this country in 1994, but the country is better known today as one of Africa’s most stable nations, a plucky survivor that has come together in the decades since the dark times to create a promising and dynamic future.
