Qatar Airways once again wins best airline award.

Despite the aviation industry suffering its worst year on record, the annual Skytrax airline awards went ahead, naming Qatar Airways as the world’s best airline for the sixth time.

The Doha-based carrier, which also won World’s Best Business Class, retained its best airline crown from last year, beating second place Singapore Airlines and third place ANA All Nippon Airways to the prize.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al-Baker said the victory was down to the “incredible work” of its staff.

“We never abandoned our loyal customers when they needed us the most, we continued flying to get people home and implemented stringent biosafety measures to provide strong reassurance for travellers, all while continuing to innovate to ensure we remain the airline of choice for millions of passengers across the globe,” he said.

It’s the second poll topped by Qatar Airways in recent months after it dethroned Air New Zealand from the top of the AirlineRatings.com Airline Excellence Awards.

Edward Plaisted of Skytrax said: “To be named the World’s Best Airline 2021 is a great recognition of Qatar Airways high standards, and to win this highest accolade for a sixth time is a remarkable achievement. We congratulate Qatar Airways for this unique success.

“Voted by customers, the focus of our annual survey is for travellers to make their own, personal choices as to which airline they consider to be best, and it is clear that Qatar Airways has maintained its high standards of innovation and service standards, both in more normal times and through the current global pandemic.”

The highest US-based carrier was Delta Air Lines, coming in at 30th overall. Budget carrier AirAsia placed higher at 29th.

Other noteworthy successes at this year’s airline awards include ANA All Nippon Airways claiming the top prize in the World’s Cleanest Airlines category and Singapore Airlines receiving the gold medal for World’s Best Cabin Crew.

Singapore Airlines was also honoured with awards for the World’s Best First Class and the World’s Best First Class Seat.

Saudi Arabian Airlines won the 2021 award as the World’s Most Improved Airline, whilst Air France was named Best Airline in Europe.
