UAE opens up to vaccinated tourists.

After five months of travel restrictions, the United Arab Emirates announced it will resume issuing visas to all tourists fully vaccinated with one of the Covid shots approved by the World Health Organization.

The move comes amid a drop in coronavirus infections in the oil-rich Gulf country, after it reported less than 1,000 cases per day last week for the first time in months.

The UAE is hoping the relaxing of entry requirements will provide a potential boost to the country’s key tourism sector, which has taken a huge hit this year.

Passengers arriving on a tourist visa must register their vaccination status on the government’s health app, take a RT-PCR 48 hours before the flight, and take a mandatory rapid PCR test at the airport on arrival.

The World Health Organization approved Covid vaccines are from AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinopharm, and Sinovac.

Tourists who have taken the COVAXIN or Sputnik V vaccines remain barred from the UAE.

The UAE as so far recorded more than 717,000 cases of coronavirus infection, including 2,039 deaths.
