Qatar Airways will soon join British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling as an Avios earning airline.

From late March, the Doha-based carrier will adopt Avios, a leading loyalty currency, as the reward currency for all members worldwide.

Privilege Club members will have their existing Qmiles balances change automatically to Avios on a 1:1 ratio basis.

The move will allow Qatar Airways to reduce its direct overhead for running the Privilege Club program.

By shifting the account management and many back office functions to the shared platform, Qatar Airways can reduce direct costs.

“The transition from Qmiles to Avios marks a ground-breaking new era for Privilege Club, enabling our loyal members to participate in the most compelling loyalty network and the largest portfolio of partners in the industry,” Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker, said.
