Once again TAP Portugal is offering great business class fares from Dublin to various cities in the US as well as to Toronto, Canada. The pricing for connections to San Francisco is especially attractive. Availability is especially high in April 2021.

Dublin to San Francisco, sadly with an overnight layover on the outbound flight.

Many Star Alliance frequent flyer programs will credit you with up to 200% of the distance traveled. This means you can get 27.000 Miles for one roundtrip.

Since TAP is a Portuguese Airline, there will always be a layover in Lisbon included. Sometimes, unfortunately, you will have to stay overnight, depending on your connection, but considering the extremely competitive pricing, it should be worth it.

On your way to North America, you will either be on board of an Airbus A330, an Airbus A340 or – and that would be the best option if you can choose – the brand new Airbus A330-neo. The latter is equipped with the stylish new Business Class that TAP is installing on its fleet:

Enjoy the brand new A330-900 NEO enroute to San Francisco.

Another curious case is the trip to Washington, which is scheduled to be an Airbus A321 NEO operating. Usually a single aisle aircraft with a short haul Business Class, TAP advertises lie flat seats on this flight:

You should be aware of the fact that the information you get from Google doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be sitting in one of the brand-new business class seats. Like any other airline, TAP can change the aircraft on short notice.

Unluckily, the fare rules do not specify how long this offer will be available. Neither do they give any indication as to how long you can or have to stay. You’ll find the best and cheapest fares by using Google Flights (instructions). Once you’ve seen your preferred flight, you can get the best price via our Travel-Dealz search at the links above. If you would rather book with TAP directly, the price increases by roughly €80. When booking over TAP, you can add a free stopover in Portugal.

Mileage

The booking class for flight segments from Dublin to Lisbon will be J (or, in some cases Z). Tickets for transatlantic flights are always issued in booking class J. Depending on your frequent flyer program of choice you’ll be credited with 125% to 200% of the miles flown.

A return flight to San Francisco, for example, will often get you roughly 27.000 award and tier miles (with, e.g., Miles&More, SAS EuroBonus, Miles and Bonus,…):

Information & Tips for USA

The USA offers many sights, natural wonders and cultural significance. Thanks to numerous airlines offering flights across the Atlantic, it is always pretty inexpensive to get there. Alternatively, you can also cross the Atlantic by boat.

Immigration, ESTA & Visa Requirements

The USA has one of the strictest entry regulations in the world. Most EU citizens citizens, among others, are lucky to be able to participate in the so-called Visa Waiver Program. If you get an electronic entry permit (ESTA) for about 12€, you don’t need a visa for entry.

Best Time to Visit

Due to its sheer size, the perfect time to visit the USA varies greatly from region to region. In winter, Florida is very popular due to the mild temperatures. In the summer the West and East Coasts are flooded by tourists which drives up the prices for hotels and flights and during the Indian Summer in late autumn New England is a very popular destination. The hurricane season between July and September can be dangerous in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida and the southern states are regularly struck by these tropical storms. Blizzards occur from the East Coast to the Midwest during the winter months and regularly put air traffic and public life on hold.

Currency

The US dollar is widely used throughout the world and accepted as a currency in most tourist hotspots worldwide. That being said, carrying cash isn’t necessary in the US, all you need is a credit card! These are very common in the USA and are accepted pretty much everywhere without any issues. If you already have a credit card in your wallet, you should make sure that it does not charge a foreign currency fee if possible. Carrying a few dollars in cash doesn’t hurt though. You might need cash e.g. for the bus ticket if you want to buy it directly from the driver. Most of the time you even have to give exact change.
