Air France pilots suspended for ‘totally inappropriate’ mid-flight brawl.

Two Air France pilots were suspended after coming to blows in the cockpit of an Airbus jetliner during a flight between Geneva and Paris.

The pilots reportedly exchanged punches shortly after takeoff, prompting cabin personnel to break up the fight.

The reason for the fight is unclear, but a spokesperson for the airline referred to it as “totally inappropriate behavior,” Bloomberg reported.

After the pair were separated, only one pilot remained in the flight deck for the remainder of the voyage.

News of the fight, which occurred in June, emerged after France’s air investigation agency, BEA, issued a report on Wednesday saying some Air France pilots lack rigour with regards to respecting safety protocols.

The report focused on another Air France flight during which pilots of an Airbus A330 traveling over Chad in December 2020 detected at cruising altitude that 1.4 tons of fuel was missing from the plane’s tanks.

The crew skirted safety procedures and increased the risk of a fire by not shutting down the leaking engine or opting to land at the closest airport, the report concluded.

In response to the report, Air France noted that it flew thousands of flights daily and the report mentioned only four such safety incidents.
