Face masks to remain mandatory on planes.
Face coverings will still be compulsory on aircraft after July 19, British carriers have warned, despite that there will be no legal requirement to enforce them.
The warning comes after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced face coverings and social distancing will no longer be legally required in England after the final step of lockdown easing.
Since the announcement, airlines have made clear that things will remain unchanged on their planes.
“At present their guidance around the wearing of masks onboard remains unchanged,” said an easyJet spokesperson.
A spokeswoman for Ryanair said face coverings “will still be mandatory across all Ryanair flights, regardless of the departing/destination country”.
In a statement, British Airways said: “We require you to wear your face mask at all times, as a guide one mask lasts four hours so please bring enough for your journey.”
Some experts, who have publicly expressed their disapproval of the easing of restrictions, expect Covid-19 cases to skyrocket in the UK over the summer.
British Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, said new cases could reach 100,000 a day after July 19.
Mr Johnson said the government was “looking to move to a different regime for fully vaccinated contacts of those testing positive and also for children”, while he said ministers would “work with the travel industry towards removing the need for fully vaccinated arrivals to isolate on return from an amber country”.
