TSA lure workers with $1,000 hire bonuses.

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has confirmed it is still looking to hire around 6,000 new officers by September 2021, as travel demand in the US increases.

The agency is having problems reaching that target and so in a bid to attract more employees, TSA is now offering a $1,000 sign-up bonus.

Over the last few weeks, airports in Texas, South Carolina, and North Carolina have advised passengers to arrive at the airport up to three hours early before their flights due to long security lines.

TSA reportedly also sent an internal memo to office staff asking for volunteers to work at airport checkpoints to help deal with the increase in passengers.

However, TSA is not the only one offering bonuses upon hire. OTG Management, which runs terminal restaurants in many US airports, is offering a variety of hiring bonuses starting at $750 as it struggles to meet customer demand.

Cooks could get a $1,000 signing bonus and new managers could receive a $3,000 bonus.

A worker shortage at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport became so severe last month that one of its top executives sent a message to shops and restaurants, asking them not to steal each other’s employees.

“As you know, we are experiencing one of the greatest hiring challenges in the history of DFW Airport,” Ken Buchanan, executive vice president of revenue management and customer experience, wrote to concessionaires.

“As we prepare for a busy summer, please continue to practice DFW Airport’s high standards of hiring operations and refrain from soliciting employees from other DFW operations.”
