It’s official: The European Union recommends lifting non-essential travel restrictions for USA visitors

In a press release this morning, the Council of Europe updated the “list of countries, special administrative regions and other entities and territorial authorities for which travel restrictions should be lifted”, and the USA are finally on the list.

Following a review under the recommendation on the gradual lifting of the temporary restrictions on non-essential travel into the EU, the Council updated the list of countries, special administrative regions and other entities and territorial authorities for which travel restrictions should be lifted. As stipulated in the Council recommendation, this list will continue to be reviewed every two weeks and, as the case may be, updated.

According to the same document, and starting from June 18, members can gradually lift travel restrictions from the following countries:

Albania
Australia
Israel
Japan
Lebanon
New Zealand
Republic of North Macedonia
Rwanda
Serbia
Singapore
South Korea
Thailand
United States of America
Administrative regions of China Hong Kong and Macao
China, subject to confirmation of reciprocity

This move comes as natural considering there are some member-states as Portugal, Italy, Greece or Spain already started to welcome for tourists from USA.

Also according to ccording to the EU, visitors from third countries travelling for essential or non-essential reasons must present a PCR test taken at least 72h before the flight, although the rules can vary from member-state to member-state:
