Level 1 countries have low incidence rates of Covid-19 (fewer than 50 new cases over the past 28 days per 100,000 people) or low case counts (fewer than 50 cases over the past 28 days in countries with populations of 100,000 or fewer).

At Level 2, the agency recommends that unvaccinated travellers who are at risk of severe illness from Covid-19 should avoid visiting.

The US State Department said it had updated its recommendations to reflect a recent methodology update.

In regards to visitors to the US, the country has banned nearly all non-US citizens who have been to China, the United Kingdom, Ireland, India, South Africa, Brazil, Iran and the 26 Schengen nations in Europe without border controls within the previous 14 days.

According to reports, Joe Biden’s administration is forming expert working groups with Canada, Mexico, the EU and the UK to determine how best to restart travel.
