Plane will take off vertically while attached to a rocket.

A Chinese company is developing an “ultra-fast” space plane that will be able to take passengers to any point on Earth by going into space and returning back again.

The firm, named Space Transportation, is developing a “rocket with wings” for point-to-point travel as well as space tourism.

It plans to have the plane operational by 2025.

“We are developing a winged rocket for high-speed, point-to-point transportation, which is lower in cost than rockets that carry satellites and faster than traditional aircraft,” the company said in a recent interview with Yicheng Times.

Test flights have shown the mothership rocket can take off and land safely back on the ground to be re-used.

The plane’s top speed of 2,671 miles per hour, will mean it can travel at twice the speed of Concorde and could get from London to New York in about an hour.

In a video shared on Space Transportation’s website, passengers are seen boarding the plane attached to the rocket, which then takes off vertically from a launch pad.

The plane can be seen travelling from a location in China, to its destination in Dubai, where it lands vertically and the passengers depart.

The plane then takes off again as the passengers make their way to the airport terminal.

The Chinese government, in cooperation with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, is also rumoured to be working on an official space plane.
